Emma and Sunny | Chinese Wedding Photography in London

Having never been to a Chinese wedding before, I found it fascinating photographing the traditions and intricacies of the day. The morning started off bright and early at Emma’s family home. In typical Hong Kong style, the girls set up a series of Chinese Wedding Door Games for Sunny’s arrival. This is where the bride waits in her room as all of her bridesmaids and female friends begin tormenting the groom and his entourage of groomsmen and friends outside.

The reason being the groom has to prove his love and devotion to his bride. Sunny therefore had to complete a series of challenges in order to cross the threshold and take Emma off to get married. These ranged from eating food laced with wasabi and other sour & bitter ingredients, singing, quizzes on Emma, press-ups and so on! I’ve never seen a groom work so hard to reach his bride, and all grooms should take note!

Once allowed upstairs to see his bride, Emma and Sunny then held tea ceremonies with each family in their respective family homes, before going on to the Barbican for a civil ceremony. This was followed by a traditional Chinese banquet in London Bridge, complete with karaoke.

Emma and Sunny, it was such an honour to photograph your wedding, and I loved being a part of it. I hope you’re having a fabulous time in Hawaii and come home soon to see all of your photos!

Jennie and James | Wedding Photography at Delfina, London

Filed under: City Weddings, Delfina — Catherine @ 8:34 pm

Jennie and James held a fantastically colourful London wedding with an Italian twist. Jennie’s family are Italian, and the DeStefanis family flew in from Italy to inject a little fun into the wedding proceedings! Jennie is one of the happiest, most smiling brides I think I’ve ever photographed. She said that her cheeks ached by the end of the night, and I think we can all see why! I had some serious shoe envy with Jennie’s amazing shoes, and James looked effortlessly cool too, arranging secretly to have a suit made to ensure he held up his end in the style stakes.

Their wedding ceremony was held in an Italian church in Clerkenwell, which provided such a beautiful backdrop. The minister that conducted the service is hands down, the best and nicest priest I have ever met, and I went to a Catholic primary school. The ceremony was fun, entertaining and engaging, and he often asked the congregation to cheer if he felt they weren’t being happy enough! I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much in what is normally quite a quiet wedding ceremony!

After the service we all piled onto two London buses to travel to the reception, showing the Italian relatives the sights of London along the way. After a heartfelt moment toasting to James’ late father, the party got into full swing, with an amazing Gypsy Kings tribute band which ensured everyone, even Jennie’s elderly Italian grandmother, were throwing some moves on the dancefloor.

Jennie and James, you were such fun to photograph, and I hope the photographs capture even half of the fun atmosphere that was your wedding day x
