Last week I had the honour of photographing the lovely Dr David Samuel for Grazia Magazine, in a 5 Star Penthouse Suite, with a team of make-up, hair and fashion stylists, an amusing bellboy and lots of laughs. We had a great shoot, and Grazia have published my work in the latest issue which has hit the newsstands today:
Back before I even had this website, let alone a blog, I photographed a wedding that was to get me hooked on wedding photography forever, and lead me astray from my life as a press photographer. Welcome to the wonderful day that was Laura and Ben’s wedding…..
Laura owns an Indian-inspired home accessories company called Bombay Duck, and so their wedding was a fusion of Indian and quintessential English, which was brought to life at Laura’s parents’ home in Gloucestershire. Filled with fun and laughter, drinking and dancing, I was truly honoured to be asked to photograph their day.

Lots of my clients lately have been asking me for advice on how they can get their gorgeous weddings gracing the pages of beautiful wedding magazines and blogs. So, it prompted me to write a little blog post about it……
Well, wedding magazines feature a handful of Real Weddings per issue. Their aim is to give their readers the best possible inspiration & helpful ideas for how to personalise their wedding day. This can be done through details, fashion, colour schemes & other personal touches. You can have *the* most beautiful and happy wedding, but if it doesn’t have an emphasis on detail, then it’s really hard for the magazines to pick tangible aspects of your wedding day to feature and inspire their future brides. I know how wonderful your weddings will be, but if you do want to submit it for publication, then we need to consider how well it will translate to thousands of readers, & how it will help them plan their day too.
Fashion also plays a major part. Beautiful dresses (not necessarily expensive) and sharp suits for the groom, (as opposed to the traditional, always-seen Morning Suits), are often helpful in order to inspire couples in the fashion stakes:
It all sounds daunting, but don’t fear! In addition to the lovely bridal magazines such as Brides Magazine, You & Your Wedding Magazine, Wedding Magazine & U.S.A.’s Martha Stewart Weddings, there are a host of online magazines and blogs too to feast your eyes on. Sites such as Style Me Pretty, Reverie Magazine, 100 Layer Cake, Once Wed & Martha Stewart Weddings Online give fabulous inspiration and often d.i.y. tips on how to create the details to personalise your day.
Of course, getting published isn’t the be all and end all. It’s only a small facet to your wedding, which will be filled with love and laughter & the foundations for a happy marriage, and that’s the most important thing. However, for those who are interested in me submitting their wedding photographs to magazines for consideration for a Real Wedding feature, this may help in giving a few pointers. I’m pleased to announce that I shall be exhibiting at The Designer Wedding Show next month! I’m very excited to be invited to exhibit and be a part of the show which showcases the best of the U.K.’s bridal industry.
